i wake at the first cringe of morning
and my heart's already sinned
Lucille stared across her bar and sighed. Lately, with how things had been going, it was always slow. She remembered before when it was positively hopping. She missed all the conversations and socializing with everyone. She gained a lot useless information through the time she had owned the Sandy Seer. She had heard rumors. She knew truths and half-truths, and even some of the things that they wanted to keep hidden. Lucy knew secrets. Because everyone had secrets and somebody always talked about them. That was just how life went sometimes. She knew she could count on finding out things from every variety of people. There were the people like her, shopkeepers and business owners, and the law enforcement, the students, general townspeople. But everybody that she met had a story to tell and she liked to hear them all.
Lately, it had been quiet and lacked the usual buzz. She hadn't heard from her siblings. She hadn't had many customers. It was just a bum week for her and she hated those sort of weeks. Never knew how to take them or what to expect from them. She was exhausted from having to keep herself company and sitting at a lonely bar all day. She had three patrons in the bar, all regulars, but not talking to her, and that was fairly normal for them, but still. She missed the others that would mill in and out. She longed for a juicy story or some secret that could unhinge a family, or just the name of someone's new pet. Just something to connect with and give her a little more interaction. She missed having attention from people, in school it seemed she never lacked people but now, she lacked people when no one was at the bar. It sucked.
